Link Redirector
Friday, November 22, 2024
Do you have a lot of web pages? Do you have a lot of long links on your pages? Do you forget those long addresses? Do you need to promote your URL's, but they're just too long? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you need the Link Redirector. In seconds you can convert your lengthy web site addresses to simple, short URL's. Best of all, it will even log all hits, so you can see how many people have visited each link.
Example:
Let's say you want to show your visitors a map to your home of office. Ordinarily you would send them this link:
http://maps.yahoo.com/py/maps.py?BFCat=&Pyt=Tmap&newFL=1135+Park+City+...%011135+Park+City+Ctr%14Lancaster%2C+PA+17601-2725%14us&addr=1135+Park+City+Ctr&csz=Lancaster%2C+PA+17601-2725&Country=us&Get%A0Map=Get+Map
With the Link Redirector, we can just have them go to:
http://www.cgiconnection.com/link
This way your visitors can easily remember the above URL and access it immediately from any computer with Internet access.
How it works:
The Link Redirector is called by using one link of JavaScript code on any of your pages. You might want to create a folder (directory) on your web site, and in the
index.html file place the code. Most servers have
index.html as the default display page for each folder. The code to place in the page will look like this:
<SCRIPT SRC="http://www.yourserver.com/cgi-bin/link.cgi?link=http://www.longurl.com/goes/here"></SCRIPT>
After the
link variable is where you will place your long URL. Now your visitors can go to the page you just created and will be automatically forwarded to the URL you supplied.
Administration:
To see your logs of links used by the Link Redirector, point your browser to:
