Did you ever install a script on your server only to see that it doesn't work because you have the paths to the server set up wrong? Most everyone has. But the System Sleuth solves this problem by telling you the home directory of your web server, the URL, the directory to your cgi-bin, the URL to the cgi-bin and a list of directories that are writable by your web server. It also explains them. Take a look:

Absolute web site URL: http://www.cgiconnection.com
Absolute path to home directory: /web/guide/cgicon/HTML

The locations above are relative to eachother. The path is where the files are stored on the server, and can be viewed when you call the URL from your browser.

Absolute URL to cgi-bin: http://www.cgiconnection.com/cgi-bin/cgi-con
Absolute path to cgi-bin directory: /usr/local/apache/cgi-bin/cgi-con
Absolute path to cgi-bin directory (alias): /web/guide/cgiconnect/cgi-conn

The locations above are relative to eachother. The path is where your cgi files are stored on the server, and can be viewed and/or executed when you call the URL from your browser.

Location of sendmail: /usr/sbin/sendmail
Location of Perl: /usr/bin/perl

All of the directories above can be written to by your web server. This means if a script in your cgi-bin needs to write to any files or directories, any of the above can be used. You can always create more under /web/guide/cgicon/HTML and CHMOD them to 777.

To install, just upload the script in ASCII format to your cgi-bin, chmod to 755, and then call it from your web browser.
